The origins of this seaside village dating back perhaps the High Middle Ages. Throughout the Ages Antico its territory, almost completely uninhabited, belonged to the jurisdiction of the Etruscan town of Marcina, most likely coinciding with Vietri sul Mare.
The site had to build a seafaring in the second half of the ninth century, when it settled in that place a colony of Saracens, driven towards the end of that century.
